Sufi Extravaganza BY Rana Chalabi at Foresight
Nadwah - Hong Kong
Foresight Art Center of Amman/Jordan hosts an Art Exhibition entitled "Sufi Extravaganza" by Sufi Artist Rana Chalabi from 10 December 2007 to 6 January 2008. Critics wrote about works: In the same way that the Sufis say we live between two breaths, the first one we take when life begins and the last exhalation when we die, the painter, as Rana Chalabi sees her, lives in that spontaneous, uncapturable moment of pure action between breaths, when the hand moves in an instant without knowing what it does. This art of getting oneself out of the way, and achieving the state of effortless action that the Japanese call "no min" and the Suffis describe as having "no head" is central to Rana's process, far more noticeable in her work in oil, watercolour, charcoal, ink and calligraphy, is the very spare style of Japanese Zen sumie ink painting. Many of her ink pieces, like the Arabic words she painted in Zen style for Ian Watson's The Tao of Homeopathy, even have the small red seals of East Asian art. Details of the gallery are as the following: 6.00pm Monday 10. December 2007 at Foresight Art
