Happiness is sometimes found
In such strange places
Yes,
you will find it among your close cuddle of friends,
Around a table at a corner bar
Sharing those light and dark secrets
about each other over way too many glasses of wine.
In
warm autumn sweaters clutched tight around you
On a crisp cozy evening,
Hands holding a warm cup,
By a nod of hot dancing fire
It is
there in mothers
and grandfathers on porches,
In a lightly swinging chair,
Gently rocking a tiny dozing child.
But,
did you also know
That, at times, you can find it on a wire?
Or in a face you’ll never see
In a letter,
A note,
Or a diary,
In a shared loneliness.
Among
all those simple things,
You will find this shared thing:
Happiness, like sadness, like love and longing,
Sometimes leaves in silence,
And is not always as it seems.
